Lemongrass

Lemongrass - Cymbopogon citrates

Lemongrass is a tall aromatic perennial grass that can grow up to five feet. The herb is obtained from the tall grass that has been dried, cut and sifted. The essential oil is steam-distilled from the fresh and partially dried leaves of the grass. Lemongrass essential oil provides a fresh, grassy citrus scent with grounding earthy tones.

The essential oil can be used for headaches, nervous tension, exhaustion and stress-related conditions. It is indicated as a tissue toner, insect repellent and for muscular pain. The herb is well-known for its culinary uses and it is also used in teas. Ayurvedic medicine recommends preparing lemongrass with pepper for the relief of menstrual troubles and nausea. This herb also stimulates perspiration, cooling the body in summer and lowering fevers. So during these hot summer days enjoy the essential oil or have an iced herbal lemongrass tea.

Iced tea suggestion: For one cup of iced tea, mix one teaspoon of lemongrass herb with one teaspoon of hibiscus flower. Steep for 20 minutes in hot water (boiling temperature), let cool and then add to a tall glass of ice. Sit back and enjoy! (for a stronger taste add more herb)

Summer Solstice


This year the summer solstice began on June 20th at 7:59 EST. In the northern hemisphere, June 21 marks the beginning of summer and the longest day of the year – midsummer’s day. There are many traditions associated with the summer solstice around the world. The most notable one is the bonfire, which expresses the link between sun and flames. These fires are considered an offering to the sun as its energy wanes with the approaching winter solstice. The lighting of bonfires symbolizes a way of bolstering the sun’s power. These fires also represent fertility, strength and good fortune for the coming harvest.

The summer solstice is also a time to pause. With the sun high in the sky and good weather, summer has been regarded as a time of rest and relaxation for agricultural communities. Now that the hard work of sowing and planting are behind, it is time to rest before the harvest begins. Take advantage of this summer tranquility to spend leisure hours around your home, have friends over for dinner and make the most out of the long evenings.

Early Summer Harvest

Join us on this early summer day full of herbal healing wisdom for you and your family. We’ll make fresh plant medicines including teas, fresh honey extracts, and vinegar and brandy tinctures using fresh herbs from the garden. We will join in a circle to honor traditions that deepen our connection with nature. We will make a prayer stick as meditative tool and a way to show our appreciation to “mother nature”.

Creating a Ceremony for Animals
July 9th, Wednesday - August 6th, Wednesday
September 12th, Friday - October 15th, Wednesday
November 11th, Tuesday 6:00 – 9:00pm

This class is designed to teach you how to use plants and essential oils as a blessing and healing practice for your animals. You will learn the art of ceremony, plant brushings, healing herbal baths, sacred oils and plants. These techniques can be used with your animals as a blessing, for a celebration, during an illness, in health, and in their passing. At the end of the class we will perform a ceremony for all animals.

Basic Aromatherapy and Working with Animals (5.5 CE Hours Supportive for CVT's)
October 25, Saturday 10:00 – 4:00 pm

Come and learn the basic principles of the art and science of essential oils and how to work with animals using essential oils. In this class you will learn:

  • Essential Oils: Medicinal and Therapeutic qualities
  • Methods of application: inhalation and topical
  • Basic Chemistry of essential oils and safety
  • The basics of Applied Kinesiology for deciding the correct oils for animals
  • Dosage, application
  • How to present the oils to animals – you learn how to understand what the animal wants
  • Make a personal product to take home

Applied Kinesiology – the Basics
November 1st, Saturday 10:00 – 2:00 pm

Learn the technique of Applied Kinesiology, a form of muscle testing to examine what meridian systems are out of balance with you or your animal. We will learn 8 muscle tests and their corresponding meridians. We will then use this technique to see what essential oils are needed to help balance these meridian systems. This is a fascinating subject and class.

Winter Health
November 15th, Saturday 10:00 – 2:00 pm

You will learn about plants and essential oils that help you through the winter months on a mental and physical level. This class is mostly hands-on. We will be making lots of herbal tonics to support you through the winter months and an essential oil “mental health remedy”. So be prepared to create and have fun in a community like environment.
